Transportation to this river are good and roads among fishing areas are fine and this river is rather short but it has 2 km of fishing beats and numbers of pool and streams. This river is on the east part of Iceland which is known for Beautiful and Spectacular landscape wich can catch anyones eye and mind it has high cliffs and mountains in the other hand and the glaciers view to the east and those deserted sand down to the Ocean side The fishing is from the Falls Pool down to the junction with the much bigger glacial river.
Tungulækur is renowned for producing large sea-trout, 10 to 20 pounds, every season. Also in 2009 was some very good salmon fishing late summer and fall in this river. Included in fishing permits are a unique fishing lodge and are all service and food included in Permits price It is primarily a sea trout river and they run the river by the thousands. They tend to be very willing takers. Many, very many, are big fish. To hook a 6 to 10 pound fish is commonplace. 12 to 14 pounders are frequently landed and even bigger ones, total monsters, are there all the time. We are speaking of fish up to and exceeding 20 pounds. Plus, young fish not yet spawning, ranging from 2 to 6 pounds are in the lower pools and the junction to Skafta by the hundreds every spring and every autumn, providing brilliant sport on light tackle.
Fishing Season Starts at 1st of April and ends at 15th of October Prime time is from 1st of April until 7th of Mai and in midsummer it is Atlantic Salmon which starts to run in the river and again a primetime for Seatrout is from 1st of August until end of Season . River Tungulækur is located in South coast of Iceland and it is 260 Km away from Iceland Capital Reykjavik and 1 km away from small town Kirkjubæjarklaustur where all you can get all service like a Gas station mini Market postoffice bank and restaurant.
Although only a short stretch of river, it has a good variety of pools, plus the junction is a superb fishery.
